cafe oberkampf - new breakfast place in town

You might think the last thing Paris need is another hipster barista place, especially in the area around Bastille where you can already find the relatively newly opened Folks & Sparrows, Steel, Broken Biscuits, Cafe Spoune & now Cafe Oberkampf. But then again, can you have too many cute, little coffee places in Paris? Probably not. Plus, of all the revolutions this city has been through, this new coffee revolution is both tasty & non-violent.

Opening early & closing early (see below), Cafe Oberkampf is perfect for breakfast. Maybe that's a new & upcoming revolution too, so far we haven't had that many places serving breakfasts other than croissants or huge (& often expensive) brunches. Here you can have everything from the healthy muesli choice to the less so cookie option.

We had coffee, chai, juice, toasted bread "tartines" with good sea salted butter & lovely homemade jam + some roasted banana cake.. Quite perfect. If you're around for lunch or a little bit more hungry than we were, you can try their "shakshuka" with eggs or their avocado & feta toast. You can see their menu here

The design is light, simple & clean. Love the blue facade with its little bench outside. It's hidden in a quiet street, so the whole experience is very calm. Yes, we saw young hipster beards, but not only. There were families with trolleys, different ages & nationalities. The only problem is that the place is so tiny that you never know if you will be able to get a table, especially on weekends. But there's always the take-away option.

Cafe Oberkampf, 3 rue Neuve Popincourt, 75011 Paris. Tel: +33 (0)1 43 55 60 10. Open on weekdays except Mondays from 8.30am to 5.30pm. Open Saturday & Sunday from 9.30am to 6.30pm.
